Sant Andreu Jazz Band Alícia Award for the Educational Project
Coinciding with Music Day, the Acadèmia de la Música Catalana today presented the award to Joan Chamorro
Joan Chamorro has always been clear that music is a language and, as such, it enters through the ear, not through writing. It empowers children and young people to listen to jazz with an open mind and soul. And this is how they internalize music: not only through notes or staves, but also through emotions and feelings. The conductor and saxophonist knows that by listening a lot, by singing - how many SAJB instrumentalists are also excellent singers -, by transcribing, and playing, they can make the music their own. And he sums up his philosophy of life, transferred to teaching, in one sentence: "The important thing is the path, not the goal."
