In the twentieth century there was a rebirth of the guitar, mainly due to its consolidation as a concert instrument and the renewal of the repertoire by non-guitarist composers. At the beginning of that century such important figures as the guitarists Andrés Segovia and Regino Sainz de la Maza encouraged composers to expand the outlook of the guitar with works of more musical scope and to advance in the search for new sonorities and aesthetics. The Sonata form served to create a bold repertoire for an instrument thought to be limited. And that prompted other non-guitarist composers to write for the instrument.
This recording is a compilation of this kind of repertoire centered between the years 1925 and 1933 driven by these mentioned guitarists. The first three Sonatas were dedicated to Andrés Segovia and the last, the Sonata by Antonio José, to Regino Sainz.
