Relaunch of the album, "Music in the Age of the Pyramids", the first in a series of recordings, containing the first attempt to reconstruct the music of ancient Egypt. Originally published in 2007.
The research carried out by the musicologist Rafael Pérez Arroyo has allowed us to identify, among the pharaonic liturgical texts, a series of hymns with a responsorial and antiphonal form that together with a precise phonetic reconstruction of the ancient Egyptian and the meticulous study carried out by the author on the legacy of Coptic and Ethiopian liturgical music has made it possible to complete the first attempt at the reconstruction of ancient Egyptian music.
This recording uses, for the first time, replicas of ancient pharaonic musical instruments reconstructed during the investigation, including several flutes preserved in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the reconstruction of two curved harps from the Old Kingdom that disappeared 4,000 years ago. (thanks to the sponsorship of Sony Spain), slats of clash or sticks (ancestors of castanets), tambourines, rattles and rhythmic groups of palms.
The result is a recording of great beauty, performed by the Hathor Ensemble under the direction of Rafael Pérez Arroyo, who recreates with the sound of the ancient Egyptian scales the meditative atmosphere of a vocal repertoire unpublished to date.
The CD is presented in digipak, with a 56-page color booklet in English-Spanish
