Most probably, the guitar has been the most neglected instrument in contemporary music. A whole series of stereotypes gravitate around it that are related to its idiomatic difficulties; stereotypes that do not disappear during the years of training, for this instrument does not belong to a conventional orchestral ensemble. The academic composer is not familiar with the guitar, and the broad contemporary repertoire written for it is not even available to the student themself. To this we should add the weight of a solid tradition, deeply rooted in that which is popular ?especially in flamenco?, which links this instrument to our collective musical memory, to a popular repertoire of sounds that we recognise as being our own.
Nevertheless, there is a whole catalogue of exceptions that confirm this rule. The project presented by Pedro Rojas Ogáyar (Jaén, 1984) gives us the opportunity to get to know several examples offered by Spanish music composition from the middle of the 20th century until today.
