“Sketches of Catalonia” is the result of an assignment that Joan Chamorro received 4 year ago, consisting in rising and conducting an orchestra in order to pay tribute to Miles Davis, in the 20th anniversary of his death. The band took the name of Miles Tribute Big Band, and in its ranks we can find so outstanding soloists as Carles Benavent (bass), Jordi Bonell (guitar), Llibert Fortuny (saxophone) and Matthew Simon (trumpet), as well as the magnificent voice and trumpet of Andrea Motis.
Entitled “Sketches of Catalonia” – alluding to "Sketches of Spain" signed by Miles Davis and Gil Evans in 1960 – the CD was recorded live in a successful concert at the venue Sala Apolo in Barcelona in 31st august 2011. The album contains a selections o Miles’s themes going through his all career, completed by a meticulous arranging work by two real masters as Alfons Carrascosa and Sergi Vergés.
